SMART board projectors require a few regular maintenance routines to ensure they function efficiently and last their expected lifespan. Cleaning the filter in the projector is an easy DIY task that is advised once a week. Introducing Filter Friday in your faculty is a good reminder for staff.

This clip shows how to clean the filter and clear filter warnings on the Sanyo projectors (common in our school). If you can identify the projector type from the images above tutorials should be available on YouTube or by Googling a manual for the model.

A daily task that should be completed is board calibration. Vibrations in classrooms can cause the board to be out of sync with the projector.

This tutorial will walk you through each step of the process. It's a good task to get a reliable student to help you with at the start of the day.

SMARTboards are far more than just projectors. Understanding how to use the basic functions and tools can dramatically enhance their effectiveness as a learning and interactive tool. There are lots of tutorials available on the SMART notebook software and SMART Ink tools if you're looking for inspiration. Alternatively this PDF can be downloaded and printed for all staff in the faculty.

Dedicating time in a faculty meeting to share tips and tricks is a great way of learning how/refreshing some of the basics that can really enhance the delivery of your lessons.
